These paintings begin with landscape, but not necessarily with a place.
Working intuitively, I allow color, gesture, memory, and the emerging image to guide the painting as it unfolds. Like improvising or composing music, one decision suggests another. I rarely know where the painting is going or what it might reveal until it is finished.
What emerges often feels suspended somewhere between an external landscape and an internal one—a place that doesn't quite exist, yet somehow feels remembered.
About the Painting
Beyond the Tide emerged without a predetermined image or destination. Layers of blue, turquoise, earth, and atmospheric color gradually coalesced into suggestions of water, distance, and fragments of an imagined landscape.
Hovering between abstraction and recognition, the painting evokes a place that feels at once familiar and unknown, as though glimpsed somewhere beyond memory.
