In Her Keeping emerged through a playful, experimental process using fountain pen ink, water, and alcohol on watercolor paper. There was a sense of discovery and fun in allowing the fluid medium to move in unexpected ways, while responding with deliberate marks of my own. The portrait gradually emerged among botanical forms, stains, and open areas of paper.
The work hovers between portraiture and abstraction, exploring the tension between what is revealed and what remains obscured. Fragments gather around the figure without fully resolving, suggesting memory, identity, and an interior world held partly beyond view.
