Painted in the months following my father's passing, Nocturne emerged from a place where grief and curiosity quietly met. I began with a simple pencil outline of a horse before splashing paint across the canvas without knowing where it would lead. From there, each brushstroke became a response to the one before it, as though listening for something just beneath the surface.
Looking back, I recognize this as the beginning of a way of working that continues to shape my practice today. During a season when life itself could no longer be controlled, painting became an act of listening instead of directing. Rather than forcing an image into existence, I learned to trust what wanted to emerge. The horse gradually revealed itself through color, gesture, and instinct, becoming less a subject than a quiet presence waiting within the canvas.
